Madden 09 Servers Shutting Down

Each year EA rolls out a list of games whose online services they will cease to support. This normally isn't surprising since the games are usually a few years old and very few people play online, however one game stands out on this list and that's Madden 09. Online service is scheduled to end on February 2nd leaving those who haven't updated to Madden 10 in the dark.

Everything else on the list is at least a few years old, but Madden 09 is only a youngling. Is this due to EA's recent financial troubles? Is the Madden franchise, once the cash cow of EA, becoming a cash hog? And what will happend to Madden 10 a year from now, will it suffer the same fate? Only time will tell.
